Explore what some of my favorite charities are doing to serve communities around the world:

charity: water

charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. One in eight people in our world don’t have access to the most basic of human needs. We’re not offering grand solutions and billion dollar schemes, but instead, simple things that work. Things like freshwater wells, rainwater catchments and sand filters. For about $20 a person, we know how to help millions.

ONE

ONE is a grassroots advocacy and campaigning organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, by raising public awareness and pressuring political leaders to support smart and effective policies and programs that are saving lives, helping to put kids in school and improving futures. Cofounded by Bono and other campaigners, ONE is nonpartisan and works closely with African activists and policy makers.

World Vision

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. We serve close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. They are earthquake and hurricane survivors, abandoned and exploited children, survivors of famine and civil war, refugees, and communities devastated by AIDS.

Free The Children is the world’s largest network of children helping children through education, with more than one million youth involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries. Founded in 1995, Free The Children has received the Children’s Nobel Prize, the Human Rights Award, and has formed successful partnerships with leading school boards and Oprah’s Angel Network.

The Humane Society of the United States is the nation’s largest animal protection organization. We work to reduce suffering and improve the lives of all animals by advocating for better laws; investigating animal cruelty; conducting campaigns to reform industries; performing animal rescue and emergency response; and providing care to animals through our sanctuaries, emergency shelters, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and clinics.

UNICEF believes that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress.  UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path.  We believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity. We advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.
