Roma Boots

Irene’s unrelenting tour of the east coast this past weekend was a clear reminder that hurricane season is still upon us. But protecting ourselves from a little (okay, maybe a whole lot!) of rain doesn’t mean that we can’t fit in a little philanthropy along the way.

Roma Provisions is a Texas-based company that provides rain boots to children living in poverty. For every pair of boots the company sells, a pair is donated to an orphan living in a cold and wet climate. The goal of Roma for All — the company’s nonprofit subsidiary — is to help Roma (or “gypsy” ethnicity) orphans break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. With support from donations and volunteers, Roma for All works to get children back into the school system where they can become self-sufficient.

Roma weather boots are made of comfortable and flexible rubber and are sturdy enough to wear in the rain and snow. Each pair is $84 and comes in a selection of five colors ranging from “matte taupe” to “glossy plum”.
